Bruno Castellucci


Born in Chatelet (Belgium) of Italian parents, Bruno CASTELLUCCI, a self-
taught musician, started playing the drums at age 14 and has rapidly imposed
himself as one of the most complete drummers of Europe.
He is active as well in the studios as on stage and has assimilated a large variety of styles.
He has accompanied famous singers, and most of all, he is a remarkable jazz and fusion drummer.

1962: Wins the first prize for drums at the Adolph Sax jazz festival
in Dinant and performed along side the greatest names of Belgian, and world,
jazz of that time, names like René THOMAS, Bobby JASPAR, Jacques PELZER and Francis BOLAND.

1963: Joins the Alex SCORIER Jazz Quintet. Plays with Slide HAMPTON,
Art FARMER, Johnny GRIFFIN, Benny CARTER, Joe PASS, Phil WOODS, Niels H.0.
PEDERSEN, George COLEMAN, Ian AKKERMAN, Clark TERRY, Philip CATHERINE, Clark TERRY, Tom SCOTT, Johnny GRIFFIN, Bobby McFERRIN, Jaco PASTORIUS, Airto
MOREIRA, Lee KONITZ, Joe ZAWINUL, Walter NORRIS, Jigg's WIGHAM, Ferdinand
POVEL, Tete MONTOLIU, Palle MIKELBORG...1970 onwards recording sessions in the studios in Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland.

Recordings took place with the above mentioned as well as with Freddie HUBBARD, Chet BAKER, Don MENZA, Tony SCOTT, Ack VAN ROOYEN, Judy NIEMACK,

Tom HARRELL, Philip CATHERINE, Joachim KÜHN, etc...1974 - 1980: Member of BRT (Flemish radio) Jazz Orchestra.

Since 1974 he is associated with Toots THIELEMANS.
1976: Represents Belgium as soloist at the Jazz Festival of Pori, Finland.
1977: Represent Belgium as soloist at the festival of Lubijana, Yugoslavia.
1978: Soloist Nordring in Belgium. He also is for many years the drummer or one of Europe's best big bands :
Between 1977 to 1979 he is member of the Ian AKKERMAN Band.
1980 onwards with the Peter HERBOLZHEIMER RHYTHM COMBINATION and BRASS, a Germany-based band with which he recorded several albums and appeared very often on TV.
He also played with the Bob MINTZER Big Band and the Count BASIE Orchestra.

Finally, he leads his own quartet, with Peter TIEHUIS, Michel HERR and
Michel HATZIGEORGIOU.

Recently. he played with Eric LEGNINI, Judy NIEMACK, Richard GALLIANO, Ivan PADUART, John TAYLOR, Stan SULZMAN....

Bruno CASTELLUCCI, teaches, since 1988, at the Brussels Conservatory.

He was teaching, 1985 - 1988, at the Rotterdam Conservatory.
Since 1986 he is also teaching at the Brussels Music Academia.
On top of his regular teachings, he also gave workshops in France,
Germany, The Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.
